Paytm takes on WhatsApp with this new feature

Facebook-owned WhatsApp is expected to enter digital payments fray in the coming months. Upping the ante on the upcoming rival, e-wallet major Paytm has launched a new messaging feature called Inbox.

Paytm Inbox allows users to chat and transact simultaneously. The new feature is presently available for Android smartphone users and will soon be rolled out on Apple iOS.

Paytm Inbox aims to let users chat with friends and family, and send/request money at the same time. Along with this, the users will also be able to communicate with neighbourhood shopkeepers and order stuff easily and send them money instantly.

Paytm claims that the Inbox platform comes with end-to-end encryption and users can also initiate private conversations and create group chats as per their choice. Other than plain text, users will also be able to share photos, videos and live location. There's also the facility to capture images using the built-in camera.

Apart from messaging, Paytm Inbox also includes Notifications, where you can see cashback offers available across categories. It will also feature Orders that will allow users to view their order and transaction updates.

The app will also offers 'Delete for All' option, using which the users can recall any message they have sent by mistake.

Speaking about the new feature, Deepak Abbot, a senior vice president, Paytm, said, "We have realized that besides making payments, our users and merchants also like to communicate with each other. There is a need of social messaging, commerce and payments seamlessly blending into one another. One step for us towards meeting this consumer need is "Paytm Inbox" where you can chat with friends/merchants and send/receive money effortlessly and securely. This will help us drive greater engagement on our platform and build a stronger bond with our customers."
