OnePlus 5 gets OxygenOS 4.5.12 update, here's what's new

NEW DELHI: OnePlus has rolled out a new software update for its OnePlus 5 devices. The update brings the OxygenOS v4.5.12 along with some bug fixes, improvements and optimisations. The new version of the operating system still keeps the Android version to Nougat.

The OxgenOS v4.5.12 fixes the bug of missing Download icon app in 4.5.11. It also fixes the issue of YouTube video lagging behind audio, display issues of some UI elements and issue of no 4G+ network in some regions. The OS version now supports customisation of notification ringtone and further improves the launching speed of apps. The adaptive brightness feature has also been optimised as a part of OxygenOS v4.5.12.

Like it has always been the case, the OS update is incremental, so all the OnePlus 5 users won't receive it at once.

OnePlus has confirmed it will be bringing Android 8.0 Oreo to its OnePlus 5, OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3 smartphones. The handset last month reportedly started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update to OnePlus 3 closed beta group. According to a report in Android Police, the update weighs about 800MB.

Unfortunately, for OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T owners Android O will be the last major OS update, says the firm. The company, however, said that it will continue to release security patches for the 'foreseeable future' for the two smartphones.

OnePlus is being rumoured to skip the launch of OnePlus 5T and directly launch OnePlus 6 smartphone. The handset is expected to arrive as soon as next year. The reason given for this is that since last year launched the OnePlus 3T with an improved processor and better front-facing camera, this year the firm has nothing new to offer.

The OnePlus 5 already runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, which has no successor in sight for now. It sports dual rear cameras and comes in 6GB and 8GB RAM variants. This leaves OnePlus with no reason to launch an upgraded version of the OnePlus 5.
