Big iPhone 8 reveal: Smaller battery than iPhone 7, 2GB RAM, and other new features

Teardowns are expected after every Apple iPhone launch and they reveal the specifications that the company conceals from the public. iFixit is known as one of the key firms which ‘tear’ into the new Apple devices. After Apple launched its iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus, iFixit started working on the teardown. The first report that has come out of the report is the iPhone 8. This study by iFixit has revealed many smaller features and details, especially regarding waterproof claims and battery. However, the findings are not really new as many technology websites had already revealed the features a while back.
After the Apple iPhone 8 launch, reports had come out that the new phone has a smaller battery when compared to the iPhone 7. Apple later confirmed that despite being an upgrade to the iPhone 7, the iPhone 8 indeed had smaller batteries but the life is the same. According to iFixit, the iPhone 8 features an a3.82 V, 1821mAh battery. When compared, the iPhone 7 had a 1960mAh battery. While it may make some users wary of iPhone 8, it should be noted that the new iPhone has a much powerful processor-A11 Bionic. The new chipset helps Apple’s optimisation efforts to make the battery more efficient. This means the battery life in both the phone will stay almost the same.
The iFixit report also revealed some other minute details. One of the hardware features in the iPhone 8 is the 2GB LPDDR4 RAM. It has a Qualcomm MDM9656 Snapdragon X16 LTE mode, and certain chips like NXP 80V18 Secure NFC Module, Skyworks 77366-17 Quad-Band GSM Power Amplifier Module, Skyworks SkyOne SKY78140, Avago 8072JD130, and P215 730N71T. Also, iFixit got a Toshiba TSBL227VC3759 64GB NAND flash storage, Qualcomm WTR5975 Gigabit LTE RF transceiver and PMD9655 PMIC, Apple’s own WiFi/Bluetooth/FM radio module and more on the rear end of the mobile.

Interestingly, iFixit said that that the iPhone 8 has the same rubber gaskets and seals as the iPhone 7. There is some more adhesive, but it won’t matter much when it comes to water resistance. The report said that the iPhone 7, as well as the iPhone 8, are IP67 certified. The report also talked about the main camera module. It said that the new phone has the same f/1.8, 6 element lens as the iPhone 7, but with larger sensors.

iFixit explained that there is a Qi-enabled wireless charging coil which uses an oscillating magnetic field to generate an alternating current, which is then converted into direct current to charge up the battery. This is how the wireless charging works in the iPhone 8.
When it comes to the glass back, iFixit said that it found it hard to remove it. This can cause issues when it comes to repairing the iPhone. Interested buyers can go it iFixit’s website to find out more details about the iPhone 8. Also, expect the iPhone 8 Plus teardown soon. The iPhone X features will be revealed only after it is rolled out globally.
