Apple Watch Series 3, Apple TV 4K launched
NEW DELHI: Apple, at its Steve Jobs Theatre at the Apple Park took the wraps off its next-gen Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Series 3. The new smartwatch comes with several improvements and features. It runs WatchOS 4, which was introduced at the company's WWDC conference in June this year. Apple Watch Series 3's pricing starts at Rs 29,900 in India. Users in select countries will be able to pre-order the Watch Series 3 starting September 15. It will be made available starting September 22. Apple has also revised the price of the Watch Series 1 to Rs 21,900.
The new Apple Watch Series 3 has the much-anticipated cellular functionality built in. It lets users attend calls, send and receive messages, check locations in maps and more without touching their iPhone handsets. Third party apps such as WeChat are supported over the cellular functionality, said Apple at the time of the launch.
The smart watch also lets users stream millions of songs by connecting it with Beats One radio, Apple Music station and other platforms. Users can also ask the digital voice assistant Siri for other information.
The Apple Watch Series 3 is powered by a dual core processor with 70% more performance than the previous chipset. Apple also said that it has made Siri quicker on the Watch 3 than its predecessor. The assistant can also reply to user voice commands. Powered by the Apple W2 chip, the Watch Series 3 includes faster Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity.
Some of the other features included in the Apple Watch Series 3 are barometric altimeter and water resistant build. The device is said to run for up to 18 hours on regular use. It has the same size as the Watch Series 2 and comes in three colour variants - Gold/Aluminium finish, Silver and Space Grey.
The Apple Watch Series 3 also comes with new colours for the Nike+ version. Other new colours are also revealed across different bands. The smartwatch this year comes in Grey Ceramic colour. The Hermes edition for the new watch has also received new designed bands.
With the new OS version, the Apple Watch Series 3 gets new watch faces. There is a dedicated Siri watch face for easier access to the company's virtual assistant. The new smartwatch also gets a Kaleidoscope watch face too along with the Toy Story watchface.
Apple TV 4K
The new Apple TV 4K, as the name suggests comes with 4K HDR 10 support along with Dolby vision. The Cupertino-based tech firm has also tweaked the Apple TV user interface. The upgraded streaming box comes with CPU with performance twice as fast and graphics 4 times faster.
Powered by Apple A10X processor, the Apple TV 4K is priced at Rs 15,900 fro 32GB and Rs 17,900 for the 64GB variant. The Apple TV (4th generation) 32GB variant now costs Rs 12,900. The device will be available for pre-order in the US, starting September 15. t will be made available starting September 22 in select markets.
Apple says it is working with 20th Century Fox, Lionsgate and other production houses to bring new content to iTunes. Users can purchase movies from select production houses on iTunes and Apple will make it 4K HDR compatible free of cost for the new Apple TV users. Amazon Prime will also be bringing its 4K HDR content for the new streaming box.
With Apple TV 4K, users can share recent photos and videos from iPhone and iPad, including the best Memories on their TV sets. In addition, the new streaming box makes it possible to send movies, TV shows, home videos and photos from iPhone or iPad to the TV using AirPlay from iOS devices.
The Cupertino-based tech firm will bring Live Sports to Apple TV. Users can get notifications on interested games, access a dedicated sports tab where they can see live and upcoming games.
