Samsung Galaxy Note 8 now gets Netflix HDR video stream support
Netflix has reportedly slipped in HDR video streaming support to Samsung Galaxy Note 8. The hugely popular streaming service discreetly added the flagship smartphone to its list of HDR support. With the latest addition to the list, now Netflix supports HDR video streaming on a total of four devices – LG V30, and Sony’s Xperia XZ1, XZ Premium and Galaxy Note 8
According to SamMobile, Netflix has added the Galaxy Note 8 to its list of HDR-supported devices which users will be able to access once the flagship phablet is released in markets on September 16. Samsung introduced HDR video stream support last year to its high-end smartphones – Galaxy Note 7, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. The Galaxy Note 8 launched last month also offers supports for the standard HDR10 format.
While Netflix promptly added the yet to be released Galaxy Note 8 to the list of HDR supported device, it still hasn’t added the Galaxy S8 siblings to it. A report on AndroidAuthority attributes this to the Galaxy S8 series’ lack of support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision, with the latter being the higher HDR format. However, to stream the HDR video content from Netflix, customers need to have subscribed to the highest 4K plan on their account. For you to understand better, HDR (High Dynamic Range) format delivers detailed contrast ratios and color accuracy while streaming videos.
The HDR format took the leap to smartphone space much recently and have picked up pace rapidly. HDR photo mode has been a primary feature accessible on almost every latest smartphone. As of now, there exists four major HDR formats – HDR10, Dolby Vision, HLG, and Advanced HDR. Samsung is said to be working with Amazon on the HDR10+ format as well. As far as video formats supported on Netflix are concerned, it offers Dolby Vision video stream on LG G6smartphone. Currently, HDR 10 video stream is supported only on five Android smartphones.
